The Last Wave is an independent production company and film movement started by Sean Hucknall and Roy Gentes in 2025. The work aims to create a new approach to contempoary cinema by using an independent ethos and blending experminetal and uncovential filmmaking form to create modern forward facing work. The use of the rules are open to anyone who wants to make a film in following the last wave guidelines and join as a part of the next cinematic generation.
Utilise who/what/where you have access to and create the film around these limitations – alone or illegal if necessary
Make films with no budget and using a small crew with people doing multiple jobs for efficiency
Use any camera or device to record, embrace weird recording methods
Don’t be afraid to be intimately personal, wildly ambitious and utterly absurd – any genre is welcome to be explored and reinvented
Combine influence from all eras and cultures of cinema – heavily experiment with cinematography, sound, editing, and mise en scene where appropriate and do not be afraid to try something that has not been attempted
Always be adaptable and ready to change any element to enhance the film – embrace spontaneity, even if it requires altering the entire film
